Horse riding expeditions have always been my job
From Central Asia to Marocco ,India and Pakistan I have organized and led dozens of riding trips on the mountains of those countries Here in the Appennine Range of Central Italy I ' ve found a beautiful playground for our trips on horseback The Range is the backbone of Italy and offers a myriad of paths and trails which crisscross mountains and hills offering a never ending network to travel around in the best way possible for us : on horseback We explore our area on horseback to offer the best mix of natural beauty, art , history and good food There is no better way to travel across a country such our than on horseback , from fort to fort , village and abbeys and hermitages We are always welcome to stay for a chat and drink a glass of wine with the locals who make up for their lack of english with the famous italian skill of making themselves understood in a way or the other Our horses belong to one of the main stables of the area and they are of Arabian and local stock and proved to be strong , reliable and fast Not only the daily ride is exilarating but also the accommodation for the night and the food will be an experience For the night we have chosen some of the most interesting and charming little farmhouses and hotel On each one of our rides , we will choose at least one site with the best view where to pitch our tents and have a dinner in style under the stars with the horses grazing nearby We also base our rides in our farm and everyday ride out on a different route , coming back for the evening , sometimes leaving the horses in camp with a groom to saddle the up them the next morning This way we can avoid the effort to pack and unpack everyday and gives the ride a more relaxed feeling and allows also to see Urbino better If you have a friend or a member of the family with you who does not ride this is the best way, since he can visit the surrounding by bike or with one of our APE while you are out on horseback For the more adventurous we also organize a spectacular 6days riding trip down the Appennine ridge all the way to the Sibilline National Park, at the southern border of the Marche ( the top picture is of the village of Castelluccio, our final destination) This is one of the wildest part of Italy and one of the most unspoiled , but still with so many things to see and stunning views every day ! We will ride from fortified village to fortified village along pastures which top hills and mountains follow the trails of the old sheperds and pilgrims For Mid May we also plan to have a 3days ride to Gubbio to take part to the" Festa dei Ceri," one of the oldest and most characteristic carnivals in Italy Domenico Mocchi |
